Meta Launches Meta One AI Subscriptions From $2.99
Meta has launched Meta One AI subscriptions, turning higher usage of its most compute-intensive creative tools into a paid product across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and Meta AI. Its global plans start at $2.99 a month for a single app and $7.99 for individual bundles.
The September 15 launch puts one pricing system around consumer, creator and business features that Meta began testing earlier this year. Meta says the gradual rollout has produced 15 million subscriptions and trials and now covers more than 50 features, figures also reported by Reuters.
Meta One opens with three groups of plans:
- Single-app subscriptions for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp.
- Core and Premium bundles for individuals and heavy AI users.
- Four creator and business tiers with professional tools.
Meta One AI Subscriptions Start at $2.99
Meta's entry-level offers are WhatsApp Plus at $2.99 a month, Instagram Plus at $3.99 and Facebook Plus at $3.99. Each adds app-specific customization or convenience features, including additional pinned chats on WhatsApp, custom fonts on Instagram and expanded reactions on Facebook.
The consumer bundles add heavier AI use. Core costs $7.99 per month and combines all three Plus plans with more access to image and video generation, Instagram Restyle, voice effects and other creative tools. Premium costs $19.99 and raises those usage allowances further.
Meta did not publish fixed generation quotas in its announcement, so the practical difference between Core and Premium will depend on the limits shown to each account. The company also cautioned that features, pricing and availability can vary by region, app and account.
The existing free tier is not disappearing. Meta says everyday access to its apps and Meta AI will remain free; the subscriptions sell specialized capabilities and more frequent use of expensive AI functions rather than access to the underlying social networks.
Creators and Businesses Get Four Paid Tiers
Meta One also replaces a collection of professional add-ons with four bundles. Essential starts at $14.99 per month and includes an enhanced profile, a verified badge after successful verification, impersonation protection and additional Meta Business Agent capacity on WhatsApp.
Advanced starts at $49.99 and adds features with direct commercial value: links in organic posts and Reels, exportable analytics, deeper audience insights, Story scheduling up to 30 days ahead and account access for team members without password sharing.
Expert begins at $149 and Max at $499 per month. Meta positions those tiers for larger teams that need the highest feature allowances and the most Business Agent capacity, rather than as separate consumer products.
Some tools are designed to convert engagement into a larger audience. Businesses and creators can add a more prominent follow button to Reels and automatically invite people who interact with their content to follow the account. Enhanced profiles can surface websites, locations and customer endorsements.
AI Usage Becomes the Upgrade Path
The defining feature is metered access to Meta's generative systems. Subscribers can create and edit more images, generate more video with Meta's Muse models and use embedded tools such as Instagram Restyle more often. Meta says over half of early bundle subscribers used both AI and expression features.
That structure gives Meta a direct way to recover some of the marginal cost of AI generation. Advertising still finances the free mass-market experience, while customers who want more compute-intensive output pay for higher limits. It is a different proposition from an ad-free subscription, which Meta One does not promise.
The plans also pull Meta's consumer and business AI strategies into one catalogue. A casual subscriber may pay for more visual creation, while a company may pay for automated customer replies and publishing tools. Both purchases increase use of the same family of apps.
Meta says the bundles will expand beyond the launch set. Edits Plus is planned with cloud project storage and greater access to an upcoming assistant that analyzes Instagram insights and suggests ideas. Benefits for Meta's AI glasses are also expected later.
Meta One Tests Demand Beyond Advertising
The launch gives Meta a recurring-revenue product across services used by billions of people. It also creates a clearer price ladder: low-cost personalization, higher AI limits for individuals, and increasingly sophisticated distribution, measurement and automation tools for professional accounts.
The 15 million figure needs careful interpretation because it combines paid subscriptions with trials accumulated during the phased rollout. Even so, it provides an early measure of interest before Meta One's global availability and unified branding.
For users, the immediate question is whether the extra generation volume and app features justify a monthly fee. For creators and businesses, the more consequential decision may be whether links, analytics, team access and Business Agent responses are valuable enough to make Meta One an operating expense.
